scientific name: pseudophilautus schmarda
There is a wide color variation for this frog and it helps them blend in quite well with its surrounding making it a bit difficult to spot if it does not produce any sudden movements.
Quite a unique characteristic that makes it easy to identify this frog is the serrations on the posterior margin of its limbs , giving it its Sinhalese name HIRIGADU GAS MADIYA.
They are quite commonly found on low lying rocks and tree trunks in wet zone forests from 30m up to 1000 m asl. If disturbed , it would jump and simultaneously squirt urine . This could be considered as one of their defense mechanisms.
A Beautiful frog to come across , only if you are good enough to spot one.
